Since 1985, MetOcean has been the world leader in the design and production of oceanographic drifting buoys.
MetOcean’s first autonomous drifter was the TOGA (Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere Drifting Buoy). The drifting buoy community valued the TOGA’s extensive operating life and reliable operating performance. As the community matured, the need arose for a compact, low-cost, spherical drifting buoy. In response MetOcean developed the SVP (Surface Velocity Program Drifter), also known as a WOCE drifter.
MetOcean has also produced a variety of other drifting buoys such as the SLDMB (search and rescue drifter), iSPHERE (oil spill response drifter), iSVP (Iridium SVP drifter), and the new NOVA Iridium profiling float.
