Polar Area Weather Station (PAWS) (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) March 2, 2009 - MetOcean is pleased to announce the development of our latest product – the Polar Area Weather Station (PAWS). The MetOcean PAWS is the newest addition to our extensive polar product line. The PAWS was designed for unattended and extended operations at remote sites requiring reliability, low power consumption and dependable operational performance. The PAWS is built to be a compact, rugged and easy to use polar platform which provides quality controlled data in harsh weather conditions. The PAWS is equipped with an Iridium satellite antenna that collects the wind speed, air temperature, GPS, sea surface temperature, humidity, barometric pressure and time reference of the stations placement. The PAWS has been designed to transmit the weather related data on a 3-hour interval over the Iridium satellite network for a period of 1 year. “Like all of our polar products, PAWS is a robust unit requiring minimal setup which is ideal for arctic conditions. Equipped only with the technical manual and the tools provided, the operator can deploy their PAWS unit with ease, right out of the box” commented Andrew Lowery, Engineer at MetOcean The PAWS was developed to conveniently collect weather data that would be utilized by Meteorological, Oil and Gas, Educational Institutes and Environmental agencies. The data from the PAWS provides the ability to track and gain a stronger knowledge of remote locations in a cost effective and reliable manner.
