Senior Embedded Engineer

Reporting to the Manager, Hardware & Devices, the Senior Embedded Engineer is responsible for the complete embedded software development lifecycle. The Senior Embedded Engineer will design and implement embedded software and systems from the initial requirements all the way through to production and commercial deployment. They will also assist in all phases of development, compliance testing, manufacturing testing, product ramp and related sustaining activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development of embedded code in C 
  • Conceptual design of products 
  • Design, develop, code, test and debug system software 
  • Review code and design 
  • Analyze and enhance efficiency, stability and scalability of system resources 
  • Integrate and validate new product designs 
  • Provide post production support 
  • Interface with hardware design and development 
  • Review electrical schematics in Altium Designer
  • Create embedded systems requirement specifications 
  • Interact with cross-functional engineering teams across MetOcean for cohesive product development

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science 
  • 8+ years experience 
  • Proven working experience in software engineering 
  • Hardware design experience is an asset 
  • Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting on embedded targets 
  • Solid programming experience in C 
  • Proven experience in embedded systems design with preemptive, multitasking real-time operating systems
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools, defect tracking tools, and peer review 
  • Excellent knowledge of OS coding techniques, IP protocols, interfaces and hardware subsystems 
  • Working knowledge of reading schematics and component data sheets 
  • Strong documentation and writing skills 
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and collaborative team environment 
  • Solid ability to understand direction and execute on work
